For almost my entire life – an incredible 45 years – I lived in big cities. My contact with animals was mostly limited to brief visits to the zoo. Like many city dwellers, I would react with a quick “Oh!” and “Ah!”, only to forget about the animals shortly after. But a few years ago, everything changed: Today, I live in the countryside, where animals are part of everyday life. A village without animals? Hard to imagine! Whether it’s my own cat, the mice in the beams of our old house, the neighbor’s dog, the farmer’s cows, or the birds in the garden – they have all become a part of my life. These animals are my inspiration. Their unique personalities, their quiet presence, and the special connection they have with their surroundings move me to bring them onto the canvas. Every animal I paint is more than just a subject – it is a tribute to life and the beauty of nature that surrounds us.
